What to do in the first hour
More of the outcome is decided in the first hour than in anything we do afterwards. In order:
- Power it off. Not sleep, off. Almost all liquid damage is electrical: current flowing through a wet board is what destroys components, and a device sitting powered on in a bag is still doing it.
- Do not charge it, and do not plug anything in. This is the most common way a recoverable device becomes an unrecoverable one.
- On a laptop, unplug it and do not press the power button. If the battery is easily removable, remove it.
- Dry the outside and keep it tilted, ports down. Let gravity take out what it can.
- Do not use a hairdryer or an oven. Heat drives moisture further in and lifts adhesive and screen layers.
- Do not shake it. You will move liquid onto parts it has not reached yet.
- Book it in the same day if you can. With seawater, chlorinated water or a sugary drink, treat it as urgent.

Why a device that still works is still a problem
Liquid damage happens twice. The first time is the short circuit, in the moment, which the device either survives or does not. The second is corrosion, which begins as soon as liquid reaches the board and continues for weeks, eating through the tiny connections between components long after the outside is dry.
That gap is why we see so many devices that worked perfectly for a fortnight and then died, and why those are much harder to save than one brought in wet. By then the damage has spread from wherever the liquid landed to whatever it flowed across. A device cleaned before the corrosion spreads is a different repair from the same device a month later.
It is also why an official water-resistance rating is not a reason to relax. Those ratings are measured on new devices in clean water, and every seal ages, every drop loosens one, and no rating covers seawater, pool water or anything with sugar in it.
What we actually do to it
The device is opened, the battery disconnected first, and the board inspected under a microscope for the liquid-contact indicators, the corrosion trail and any shorted components. The board is then cleaned, ultrasonically where it needs it, dried properly rather than air-dried, and tested stage by stage.
Cleaning is where most of the value is. It is not glamorous and it is not fast, but it is what stops the damage progressing and it is what decides whether anything else is worth attempting. Where a component has been destroyed, replacing it at board level is a separate question that we raise with you once we know what is there.
An honest word about outcomes
We publish no price for this repair and no success rate, because we cannot know either before opening your device, and quoting a figure to win the booking would be quoting a figure we could not honour. The diagnosis costs you nothing, and if the board is beyond economic repair you will be told that plainly and early.

My phone got wet but still works. Do I need to do anything?
Yes, and this is the case people most often get wrong. A device that survived the moment is not out of trouble: what does the damage is corrosion, which starts once liquid reaches the board and keeps going for days or weeks after everything looks fine. Devices brought in working are the ones with the best outcomes. Devices brought in three weeks later, after they stopped working, are the hardest.
Does rice work?
No. Rice absorbs a little ambient humidity and none of the liquid inside a sealed device, it does nothing at all about corrosion, which is the actual damage, and it leaves starch dust in the ports. It is popular because devices sometimes recover on their own, and the rice takes the credit. Powering the device off and getting it opened and cleaned is what changes the outcome.
Can you guarantee you will fix it?
No, and nobody honest will. Liquid damage is the one repair where the outcome genuinely cannot be known before the device is opened and cleaned. What we can promise is that the diagnosis is free, that you will be told plainly what we find, and that if the board is beyond economic repair we will say so rather than charge you to find out slowly.
What about my photos and files?
Tell us at booking if data matters more than the device, because it changes how we approach the repair. In some cases a board can be revived just long enough to get the data off even when the device is not worth repairing. Data recovery is a separate piece of work and is quoted separately, after we have seen what state the storage is in.
Is it worth repairing an older device?
Sometimes not, and we will tell you when that is our honest view. Liquid repair is labour-intensive, so on an older phone the cost can approach the value of the device. You get the assessment and the cost free of charge, and the decision stays yours.
It was seawater or a pool. Is that different?
It is worse, and more urgent. Salt water and chlorinated water are far more conductive and far more corrosive than tap water, and sugary drinks leave a residue that keeps conducting after it dries. If it was any of those, treat it as same-day: the gap between hours and days matters much more than with clean water.
