What we check before quoting
Rear glass rarely breaks on its own. A drop hard enough to shatter the back usually did something else as well, and quoting for the glass without looking for it is how a repair turns into two. Free of charge, before any price is agreed, we check:
- whether the frame is bent, which stops a new panel from sitting flush
- whether the camera lens covers are cracked separately from the main panel
- that wireless charging still works, since the coil sits directly under the glass
- the rear cameras, for cracks in the lens or debris that has already worked in
- signs of liquid ingress through the crack, which changes the job entirely
You get the findings and the price together, in writing. If the phone is better left alone, we will say so.
Why your model decides the job
On the iPhone 12 and every model since, Apple changed the rear assembly so the glass can be separated from the chassis with a laser, which makes a glass-only replacement realistic. On the iPhone 8, X, XS, XR and 11, the glass is bonded to the frame much more aggressively, and removing every fragment cleanly is slow work; on those models replacing the housing is sometimes the sounder repair even though it sounds like the bigger one.
This is why there is no price table on this page. Publishing one figure across fourteen model generations would mean over-charging most people or quoting a price we could not honour.
What to do before you book
Put a strip of clear tape across the cracks. It holds the fragments in place, stops the crack spreading from the corners, and stops the glass cutting you or lifting away in a pocket. Avoid wireless charging until it is repaired: a lifted fragment sitting over the coil traps heat.
If the crack runs over the camera bump, stop using that camera for anything you need to keep. Glass dust works into the lens assembly and the damage there is not reversible by replacing the back.

Why is back glass priced after a diagnosis rather than listed?
Because the work is not the same job on every iPhone. From the iPhone 12 on, the rear glass is laser-separated from the chassis; on the iPhone 8 through 11 it is bonded far harder, and on some models the cheapest sound repair is replacing the housing rather than the glass alone. We inspect the phone free of charge and tell you which applies, with the price for it.
Does cracked back glass actually need fixing?
It is not urgent the way a failing screen is, but it is not only cosmetic either. A crack over the camera bump distorts photos, gaps let dust and moisture past the seal, and cracks spread from the corners when the phone is dropped again. Loose glass also cuts.
Will wireless charging still work afterwards?
It should. The charging coil sits under the glass and stays in the phone. If wireless charging had already stopped working, say so when you book so we check the coil while the phone is open rather than treating it as a result of the repair.
Can you replace just the camera lens glass?
Often yes, and it is a different, smaller job from the main rear panel. If only the small cover over the camera is cracked, say so when you book: we check whether the lens cover alone can be changed before quoting for the whole back.
Does the repair affect my water resistance?
Any repair that opens a phone breaks the original factory seal. We reseal what we open, but no repaired phone should be treated as water resistant to its original rating. That is true of every workshop, not only ours.
