Windows laptops are not sold in a handful of variants the way phones are. A single model name can cover a dozen configurations with different panels, batteries, keyboards and boards, so "a Dell 15-inch" is not enough information to order a part against.

Every manufacturer prints a unique identifier on the underside: Dell calls it a Service Tag, HP a Serial and Product number, Lenovo a Machine Type Model, Asus and Acer a serial. Give us that when you book and we can confirm the exact panel, battery and keyboard your machine takes before anyone quotes you. Without it, a quote is an estimate and the part ordered may not fit, which is the usual reason a laptop repair drags on for a week.

Laptop panels differ in resolution, refresh rate, brightness, whether they are touch, and whether the cable connector is 30-pin or 40-pin. A panel that physically fits can still be the wrong one: fitting a 1366x768 panel to a machine that shipped with a 1080p IPS display is a downgrade you would notice every day, and it is a common way an unusually cheap quote is made to look cheap.

We quote the panel that matches what your laptop shipped with, and if you would rather have a different specification, that is a conversation we have with you before the repair, not a substitution you discover afterwards.

A large share of the laptops that arrive described as slow, or as shutting down by themselves, have no software problem at all. Fine dust builds a mat across the heatsink fins, airflow drops, the processor throttles to protect itself, and the machine crawls. In a climate where laptops move between fierce air conditioning and outdoor humidity, this happens faster than the design assumes.

Stripping the cooling assembly, clearing it properly and replacing the dried thermal compound is inexpensive next to a board repair, and it is worth ruling out before anyone tells you the machine needs replacing.

Laptops sold in the UAE come with Arabic and English legends on the same keys, and machines brought from elsewhere often do not. When we replace a keyboard we match the layout your machine came with unless you ask for something different. It is worth saying which you want when you book, because the two are different parts with different lead times.

Some laptops are not worth fixing, and the free diagnosis exists partly to establish that. A board-level fault on an eight-year-old budget machine can cost more than a current entry-level laptop; a swollen battery and a cracked screen together on an old machine often will too.

When that is the case we say so, and where your data matters we can usually recover it from the drive whether or not you go ahead with the repair. You are never charged for hearing that the answer is no.
