On most Galaxy phones the display is not a pane of glass you can lift off. The AMOLED panel, the digitiser and usually the mid-frame are bonded into a single assembly, and on many models the battery is adhered to the back of it. Replacing a broken screen means replacing that whole assembly, which is why a Galaxy screen often costs more than the equivalent repair on a phone of the same price.

It also explains a fault owners find baffling: a thin green or pink line down a screen that was never dropped. That is the panel or its connector failing, not accidental damage, and it needs the same assembly replaced.

For most Galaxy models there is a genuine Samsung service assembly and there are aftermarket alternatives. They are not the same thing. Aftermarket panels vary in colour accuracy and peak brightness, and some do not carry the hardware that in-display fingerprint reading depends on, so unlock can behave differently afterwards.

Where both are available for your model we tell you which we are quoting, what it costs and what warranty it carries. What we do not do is quote you for one and fit the other.

Foldables are their own category. The inner flexible display, the hinge and the protective layer over the panel each fail in their own way: a crease that develops into a line, a hinge that has taken dust and grit, or the factory-fitted screen protector lifting at the fold, which is normal wear and not the panel itself failing.

Because the parts and the labour differ so much from a standard Galaxy, we do not publish a blanket price for them. Tell us your exact model when you book, and we diagnose it free of charge at our workshop and confirm the required repair and applicable price.

A screen, battery, charging port or camera repair does not require a factory reset, and we do not wipe your phone to carry one out. Samsung Pay, Secure Folder and anything else protected by Knox stay as they are.

Two honest caveats. Back up before you hand the phone over, because no repair is risk-free. And if the phone still turns on, note your Google account and screen lock: a phone that cannot be unlocked after the repair cannot be tested properly before it goes back to you.

Galaxy naming is dense, and an S23, an S23+ and an S23 Ultra take different parts. The definitive answer is the model code that begins with SM-, in Settings › About phone › Model number. Give us that code when you book and the price you see is the price for your handset.
